UNSW offers a wide range of Equity Scholarships to assist commencing students to undertake full-time study for the minimum duration of their coursework degree program.


How to Apply

There are many ways to be considered for an Equity Scholarship at UNSW:

Year 12 student from an identified low-SES background
UAC will automatically generate an application for the Educational Access Scheme (EAS) as part of your UAC application.

You only need to submit an additional Educational Access Scheme (EAS) or Equity scholarship (ES) if you want us to know about any additional hardships that have affected your studies.

Entering UNSW via the Gateway Admission Pathway

You will automatically be considered for Equity Scholarships based on your UNSW Gateway Admission Pathway application.

You only need to submit an Educational Access Scheme (EAS) or Equity scholarship (ES) if you want us to know about any additional hardships that have affected your studies.

Entering UNSW via the Indigenous Admission Pathway
You will automatically be considered for Equity Scholarships based on your UNSW Indigenous Admission Pathway application.

You will need to submit either an Educational Access Scheme (EAS) or Equity Scholarship (ES) application to be considered for an Equity scholarship. Further details are below.


Educational Access Scheme (EAS) Application via UAC

Apply by 21 November 2024.

The Educational Access Scheme (EAS) is open to year 12 students who have encountered significant educational challenges during year 11 and/or 12. For more information on eligibility and how to apply, visit UAC EAS. Note: You will only be considered for Equity scholarships on the basis of your Gateway Admission Pathway and/or UAC EAS applications when you enter UNSW. If you wish to be considered for Equity scholarships in subsequent years, you will need to submit an Equity Scholarship application.

Equity Scholarship Application via UAC

Apply by 10 December 2024

The Equity Scholarship application allows commencing and current applicants undertaking undergraduate or postgraduate coursework studies to apply for Equity scholarships. You will be considered on the basis of your UAC Equity Scholarship (ES) application. Equity scholarship applications open in April and close the following March. You only need to submit ONE Equity Scholarship application via UAC during this period. Your application remains live throughout this period, and you will be considered for all available Equity Scholarships for which you are eligible.

Sir Arthur & Lady Renee George Endowed Scholarship (UGCE1035) Supports students who completed their senior secondary education at St Spyridon College, Maroubra NSW to commence any undergraduate program at UNSW (except Arts and Social Sciences and Art and Design). $10,000 p.a. for the minimum duration of program
U-Committee Endowed Scholarship (UGCE1190) Supports women from disadvantaged backgrounds to undertake undergraduate study at UNSW. $5,000 p.a. for the minimum duration of program
UNSW Veterans Scholarship (PUCE1013)

Supports former and transitioning Australian Defence Force Personnel or their dependents, who are experiencing disadvantage to study in any UNSW undergraduate or postgraduate coursework degree.

NOTE: In addition to submitting an EAS or Equity Scholarships application, applicants must submit evidence of their own or their parents Australian military service record directly to UNSW Scholarships.

$20,000 total over the minimum duration of a postgraduate coursework degree.

UNSW President and Vice-Chancellors Equity Scholarship (UGCE1319)

Supports commencing undergraduate and postgraduate coursework students from low-socioeconomic* backgroundsto undertake studies at UNSW.

*Based on residential address at the time of application. Low-socioeconomic areas are based on IRSAD and IEO indexes of SEIFA criteria.

$5,000 p.a. for the minimum duration of program
Accommodation Scholarships & Awards
Note: Accommodation Scholarship & awards offers do not include an offer of accommodation.Applicants will need to apply directly to UNSW Accommodation to secure a place.
Trevor Gerber SYD100 Scholarship (UGCE1379)

Supports educationally disadvantaged students undertaking undegraduate coursework studies at the UNSW School of Aviation. The Scholarship will be paid directly towards accommodation fees and tuition fees. Students must have received an offer to a Commonwealth Supported Place in a Bachelor of Aviation Management / Commerce or Bachelor of Aviation Management (with option to complete honours).

$25,000 p.a. towards residential fees and full tuition fees for 4 years
J Holden Family Foundation Endowed Residential Scholarship (UGCE1367)

Supports undergraduate students from regional or remote areas to study at UNSW and reside in Basser College

Students must apply and receive an offer to reside at Basser College to be eligible.

In the event that a recipient is receiving the Residential Cost Option (RCO) or is not residing in UNSW on-campus accommodation, the minimum value of the scholarship will be paid as a $7,000 stipend.

$25,000 p.a. towards residential fees for the minimum duration of program

OR

$7,000 p.a. stipend for the minimum duration of program if receiving RCO.

Tyree Women in Engineering Scholarship (UGCE1487) Supports women from a disadvantaged background commencing undergraduate studies at the UNSW Faculty of Engineering who have attended a Gateway Partner School in Greater Western Sydney.

$25,000 p.a. towards residential fees or as a stipend for the minimum duration of program (up to 5 years)

OR

In the event the scholarship is paid as accommodation fees and the recipient is receiving the Residential Cost Option (RCO), the minimum value of the scholarship will be paid as a $7,000 stipend directly to the student.

Basser Endowed Indigenous Award (UGCE1473)

Supports commencing or current full-time undergraduate Indigenous students experiencing educational disadvantage and are residing at Basser College.

NOTE: Applicants who are receiving the UNSW Accommodation Scholarship are not eligible for consideration.

Students must have applied and offered a place at Basser College to be eligible.

$5,000 for one year
Basser Equity Award (UGCE1350)

Supports commencing or current full-time undergraduate students experiencing educational disadvantage and are residing at Basser College

NOTE:Applicants who are receiving the UNSW Accommodation Scholarship are not eligible for consideration.

Students must have applied and offered a place at Basser College to be eligible.

Gateway Scholarships & Awards
UNSW Gateway Scholarship (UGCE1404)

Supports commencing students who have enrolled at UNSW through the Gateway Admissions Pathway program to complete studies at UNSW.

Students must have attended a Gateway Partner School to be considered.

$10,000 p.a. for the minimum duration of program
UNSW Gateway & Low SES Equity Scholarship (UGCE1402)

Supports commencing students from low-socioeconomic* background and low-socioeconomic Gateway schools to complete studies at UNSW.

*Based on residential address at the time of application. Low-socioeconomic areas (bottom 25%) are based on IRSAD and IEO indexes of SEIFA criteria.

$10,000 p.a. for the minimum duration of program
Prof. Joseph P Forgas Gateway Scholarship (UGCE1488) Supports students who have attended a Gateway Partner School and are commencing full-time study in an undergraduate (single or double degree) coursework program in Science at UNSW. $10,000 p.a. for the minimum duration of program
Adamo and Francesca Boncardo Equity Scholarship (UGCE1288) Encourages commencing students who attended a school recognised under the Gateway program (or similar program) to come to UNSW and study an undergraduate coursework degree program in any faculty. The scholarship will support students who may not otherwise be financially able to come to university. $5,000 p.a. for the minimum duration of program
UNSW Advantage Award (UGCE1501)

Supports all commencing students from an eligible low-socioeconomic area* who receive an offer from UNSW and enrol for Term 1, 2025, including students who have received an offer through the UNSW Gateway Admissions Pathway website, to undertake studies at UNSW.

NOTE: A UAC Equity Scholarship or UAC EAS application is not required to be considered for this Award. Eligible students will be considered through their UAC Admissions application.

UNSW Gateway Award (UGCE1510)

Supports all students who attend a Gateway School, apply via the Gateway Admission Pathway and enrol at UNSW to undertake studies at UNSW.

NOTE: A UAC Equity Scholarship or UAC EAS application is not required to be considered for this Award. Eligible students will be considered through their Gateway Admissions Pathway application.

Arts, Design & Architecture
Alec Tzannes Scholarship in Architecture and Built Environment (UGCE1483) Supports commencing undergraduate students experiencing educational disadvantage to undertake studies in Architecture. If there are no eligible architecture students, students commencing undergraduate coursework studies in Landscape Architecture, Industrial Design, Internal Architecture or City Planning will be considered. $10,000 p.a. for the minimum duration of program
Women in Construction Equity Scholarship (UGCE1492)

Supports women from low-socioeconomic backgrounds* commencing a Bachelor of Construction Management and Property at UNSW to pursue construction management.

*Based on residential address at the time of application. Low-socioeconomic areas (bottom 25%) are based on IRSAD and IEO indexes of SEIFA criteria.

$10,000 p.a. for the minimum duration of program (up to 3 years)
Nicholas John Vargassoff Scholarship in City Planning (UGCE1289) Supports high school leavers from disadvantaged backgrounds to undertake undergraduate coursework studies in the Bachelor of City Planning. $5,000 p.a. for the minimum duration of program
Robert Zehner Urban and Regional Planning Scholarship (UGCE1407) Supports regional or remote commencing students from disadvantaged backgrounds to undertake undergraduate coursework studies in City Planning. $5,000 p.a. for the minimum duration of program
Women in Construction Undergraduate Equity Award (UGCE1493)

Supports women from low-socioeconomic backgrounds* commencing a Bachelor of Construction Management and Property at UNSW to pursue construction management. Students who were previously awarded are not eligible.

*Based on residential address at the time of application. Low-socioeconomic areas (bottom 25%) are based on IRSAD and IEO indexes of SEIFA criteria.

Business
The Rob Barry Banking and Finance Equity Scholarship (UGCE1514)

Assists commencing students from low-socioeconomic* background undertaking undergraduate studies in the School of Banking and Finance at UNSW. Double degrees are permitted, but the tenure of the Scholarship will remain at a maximum of 5 years.

*Based on residential address at the time of application. Low-socioeconomic areas (bottom 25%) are based on IRSAD and IEO indexes of SEIFA criteria.

Mattick Scholarship in Business (UGCE1370)

Supports students from low-socioeconomic* status background or single parent families to undertake studies in an undergraduate program in the UNSW Business School. Double degrees are permitted.

*Based on residential address at the time of application. Low-socioeconomic areas (bottom 25%) are based on IRSAD and IEO indexes of SEIFA criteria.

$10,000 p.a. for the minimum duration of program
Mattick Rural Endowed Scholarship (UGCE1399) Supports regional or remote students to undertake undergraduate study at the UNSW Business School. Double degrees are permitted. $10,000 p.a. for the minimum duration of program
Mattick Family Endowed Scholarship (UGCE1497)

Supports commencing students from low-socioeconomic* background or single parent families to undertake studies in an undergraduate coursework program at the UNSW Business School at UNSW.In the event a suitable candidate from the Business Faculty is not found, the Scholarship may be offered to an undergraduate student at the Faculty of Engineering.

The Ian and Barbara Burgess Memorial Rural Engineering Scholarship (UGCE1465) Established to encourage, and support disadvantaged students from regional or remote areas studying a Bachelor of Engineering (Honours) program at the UNSW Faculty of Engineering. Double degrees permitted. $15,000 p.a. for the minimum duration of program
Dean's Engineering Equity Scholarship (UGCE1405) Assists students from a disadvantaged background undertaking an undergraduate degree in Engineering. $15,000 p.a. for the minimum duration of program
Faculty of Engineering Indigenous Equity Scholarship (UGCE1491) Assists and encourages Indigenous students experiencing educational disadvantage to undertake full-time undergraduate study in the Faculty of Engineering at UNSW. $15,000 p.a. for the minimum duration of program (up to 5 years)
CCFF Women in STEM Scholarship (UGCE1447) Supports women undertaking an undergraduate degree program in STEM at the Faculty of Science and Faculty of Engineering. Double degrees permitted. $12,000 p.a. for the minimum duration of program
Chong Kin Nam Scholarship (UGCE1246) Established to support and encourage financially disadvantaged students commencing an undergraduate STEM degree at the UNSW Faculty of Engineering or Faculty of Science. $10,000 p.a. for the minimum duration of program (up to 5 years)
Mike Brungs Scholarship for Women in Chemical Engineering (UGCE1513) Supports women from a social or educational disadvantaged background to underatke undergraduate coursework studies in one of the following specialisations : Chemical Engineering; Chemical Product Engineering; Food Science; Environmental Engineering at UNSW and have also displayed academic merit. $10,000 p.a. for the minimum duration of program
CSE Equity Scholarship (UGCE1417)

Supports students from low socio-economical background* to undertake undergraduate coursework studies in the School of Computer Science & Engineering at UNSW in one of the following programs:Bachelor of Computer Science ; Bachelor of Bioinformatics Engineering; Bachelor of Software Engineering; Bachelor of Computer Engineering.Double Degrees are permissible.

Potishko Family Goldman Sachs Gives Equity Scholarships (UGCE1504) Supports commencing or current UNSW students from disadvantaged background undertaking an undergraduate single or double degree coursework program in Law, Medicine, Science or Mathematics. $10,000 p.a. for the minimum duration of program
Ngoc Tram Nguyen Scholarship (UGCA1352) Supports disadvantaged Law students from the public secondary schools in South Western Sydney to undertake an undergraduate degree program at the UNSW Faculty of Law & Justice. $5,000 p.a. for the minimum duration of program (up to 5 years).

Emeritus Professor Marcus Taft Equity Scholarship in Psychology (UGCE1436) Supports commencing students from a disadvantaged background to undertake undergraduate studies in either the Bachelor of Psychology (Honours) or Bachelor of Psychological Sciences (Honours) in the School of Psychology, UNSW Sydney. Preference will be given to Australian citizens. $20,000 p.a. for the minimum duration of program
CCFF Women in STEM Scholarship (UGCE1447) Supports women from a disadvantaged background commencing undergraduate coursework studies in a program in STEM at the Faculty of Science and Faculty of Engineering.Double degrees permitted. $12,000 p.a. for the minimum duration of program
Potishko Family Goldman Sachs Gives Equity Scholarships (UGCE1504) Supports commencing or current UNSW students from disadvantaged background undertaking an undergraduate single or double degree coursework program in Law, Medicine, Science or Mathematics. $10,000 p.a. for the minimum duration of program
Chong Kin Nam Scholarship (UGCE1246) Established to support and encourage financially disadvantaged students commencing an undergraduate STEM degree at the UNSW Faculty of Engineering or Faculty of Science. $10,000 p.a. for the minimum duration of program (up to 5 years)
OVRF Maki Shiobara Scholarship (PUCE1018) Supports students experiencing educational disadvantage to undertake undegraduate studies in the Bachelor of Vision Science or Bachelor of Vision Science/Master of Clinical Optometry at UNSW. $6,000 p.a. for the minimum duration of program

UNSW Scholarships work in partnership with the Office of the PVC Indigenous and Nura Gili, Centre for Indigenous Programs. In some cases UNSW may prioritise Indigenous students for Equity scholarships. While Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander identity is unique and sacred to every person, UNSW scholarships prioritising Indigenous students will require proof of Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander identity and heritage. If you have not already provided proof of identity and heritage to Nura Gili, any Indigenous specific scholarship offer made by UNSW Scholarships will be conditional upon receipt of proof of Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander heritage to Nura Gili as outlined on the Nura Gili website.
