The UNSW Sports Scholarships are for current and commencing UNSW Students who display outstanding sporting ability.

By applying for the UNSW Sport Scholarships - Term 1, 2025 you may be considered for the following scholarships. More scholarships may be added to this list progressively.

*Please note the application closing date is now 11:59pm AEST Monday 2nd December 2024

Ben Lexcen Sports Scholarship (UGCE1043) $10,000 for one year
  • Future or current UG & PG (Single or double)
  • Elite Athlete
UNSW Indigenous Elite Athlete Sports Award (PUCE1020)

$10,000 for one year

  • Be an Indigenous Australian (Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander only)
Prue Watt Sport Award (PUCE1025)

$10,000 for one year

  • Identify with having a disability (this does not need to be registered with UNSW services)
  • Must compete in a sport recognised by Sport Australia.
  • Must provide a letter from either a National or State Sporting Organisation to verify the current standard of competition.
UNSW & NSW Rugby Award (PUCE1031) $10,000 for one year
  • Endorsed by NSW Rugby
UNSW & Sydney Swans AFLW/ Academy Award (PUCE1028)

$10,000 for one year

  • Compete for Sydney Swans AFLW or Sydney Swans Academy
NSW Elite Basketball Award (UGCE1505)

$10,000 for one year

  • Contribute to the basketball community through basketball organisations, UNSW Basketball Club, or other basketball related organisations.
Barnes Clitheroe Basketball Award (UGCE1518)

$5,000 or $10,000 for one year

  • Contribute to the basketball community through basketball organisations, UNSW Basketball Club, or other basketball related organisations.
  • Living on campus in a Kensington College
  • From a rural/ remote region
Elite Athlete Award (UGCE1195/ UGCE4130) $5,000 for one year
  • Future or current UG & PG (Single or double)
  • Elite Athlete
UNSW High Performance Club Award (UGCE1273) $5,000 for one year
  • Compete for (or intending to) a UNSW High Performance Club (AFL, CRICKET, FOOTBALL, HOCKEY, WATER POLO, JUDO)
  • Endorsed by the applicants High Performance Sporting Club
Mark Dorrity Athletics Award (UGCE1196) $5,000 for one year
  • Have an outstanding ability in Athletics
  • Must be or intending to be an active member of the UNSW Athletics club
Randwick Rugby Club/ St Hilliers Award (UGCE1092) $5,000 for one year
  • Compete for Randwick District Rugby Football Club (Randwick Rugby)
Sam Cracknell Memorial Sports Award (UGCE1013) $5,000 for one year
  • Compete for a UNSW Sporting Club
Bill Jameson Football Award (UGCE1121) $5,000 for one year
  • Compete for the UNSW Football (soccer) Club

There are also a number of scholarship opportunities available that may be relevant to the program you wish to study at UNSW. Please search the UNSW Scholarships website for your relevant Faculty and/or program to find other scholarships you may be considered for.

Eligibility

To be eligible for these scholarships, applicants must meet all the following criteria:

  • Be commencing or currently enrolled in an undergraduate or postgraduate coursework program (single or double degree) at UNSW Sydney.
  • Sporting performance in their nominated sport and/or their potential to become an outstanding sports person based on their performances and ability as at the time of application/
  • Be deemed an elite athlete representing at a minimum of state level (or similar).

Selection

Applicants will be assessed on the basis of:

  • Proven outstanding sporting achievement.
  • Ability to contribute to university life.

You must provide evidence supporting the above criteria in your online application. Please refer to the Scholarship Application Supporting Documents for a detailed list of examples.

Unanswered application questions or claims without supporting documentation will not be assessed. Late applications/supporting documentation will not be accepted. Activities and achievements recorded more than 3 year ago will not be considered in your application assessment.

UNSW reserves the right not to award a scholarship, where there is no applicant of sufficient merit, or if the applicant does not meet the scholarship eligibility and/or selection criteria.
